무역영어 정의

 

무역영어란 다양한 언어가 사용되는 국제 무역거래에서 일반적으로 통용되는 영어이다. 따라서 무역영어는 비즈니스 여행 및 숙박, 국제 마케팅, 국제 무역거래 및 계약, 계약의 이행 등에 사용되는 영어이다. 특히 무역영어는 무역에 관한 거래관습, 보험, 운송 및 대금결제에 대한 전문 용어가 포함되어 있어, 이의 숙지가 필수적이다.
 
무역조건의 해석에 관한 국제규칙(International Rules forthe interpretation of the trade terms,1990), 신용장통일규칙(Uniform customs and practice for documentary credits), 국제물품매매계약에 관한 UN협약(United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods),해상화물운송에 관한 UN협약(United Nations Convention on the Carriage of Goods by Sea,1980), 해상보험에 관한 협회적하약관(Institute Cargo Clauses), 외국중재판정의 승인 및 집행에 관한 UN협약(United Nations Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitration Awards) 등이 주로 인용되는 무역 관습 및 규범이다.
 
무역영어를 미국에서 “Business English”, 영국에서는 “Commercial English”로 표현한다. 또한 국제상거래계약서(International Business English), 무역서신(business letters), 무역서식(business documents), 광고문, 보고서, 기술관계문서 등을 작성할때 주로 사용 되어 생활영어와는 차이가 있다.
